Fifth Season is one of my top all-time favorite speculative books. Jemisin does things with world building that is beyond comprehension. I’ve wanted to read Tender is the Flesh but I’ve weenied out so far. Perhaps it’s time to bounce it up the TBR.
Bazterrica's novel did something similar to me—that slow realization that discomfort is the point. Looking forward to seeing what you bring to FicStack.
Hi Tonja! I’ll share a few recommendations below, and will out Tracy K. Smith to the top of the list. She’s not SpecFic usually, but her poetry collection has speculative elements. I found her prose “To Free the Captives: A Plea for the American Soul” to be a particularly powerful read.
LIFE ON MARS by Tracy K. Smith
INK BLOT GIRL by Rose Ivy (Rose Bowen)
BRUJERIA by Tatiana Maria Corbett
MOTHER by m.s. Redcherries
MEXICANS ON THE MOON by Pedro Iniguez
Can’t wait to see what you come up with to share! ☺️♥️
Great to have you on the team Tonja!

Welcome to the team Tonja! I can't wait to get lost in your recommendations!
While he writes more than fiction and poetry (and not speculative fiction, as far as I know), I would like to recommend https://open.substack.com/pub/frederickjoseph?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=2qm23g

I’d loved to pitch my latest poetry book, The Mad Whore. And even if it doesn’t make your weekly recs, you’ll still enjoy it.
