Welcome to FicStack
A New Home for Fiction on Substack
For a long time, I’ve believed that Substack is one of the most exciting places for writers on the internet. It’s a place for unfiltered creativity and direct connection. But for fiction writers and their readers, there has always been a missing piece: discoverability.
How do readers find their specific niche; the cyberpunk saga, the cozy fantasy, the literary short story, without stumbling upon it by chance? And how do writers reach that dedicated audience?
Today, I’m thrilled to announce the start of a project designed to be that missing piece. Welcome to FicStack.
What is FicStack?
FicStack is a community and a tool built with a single, focused mission: to be the central hub for discovering fiction on Substack. It consists of two parts that work together:
The Directory (
FicStack.com): Launching very soon, this will be the engine of the project. It’s a comprehensive, searchable database where readers can filter by genre, tags, and more to find exactly what they’re looking for.The Showcase (This Newsletter): You’re reading the very first post! This Substack will be our curated front page. Here, I’ll be sharing themed roundups, author spotlights, interviews, and updates on the project. It’s your dose of discovery, delivered directly to you.
What to Expect
In the coming days and weeks, this space will come alive. You’ll see the first curation posts featuring the founding members of the directory, behind-the-scenes updates as the main site is built, and the start of a real community conversation.
Join Us from Day One
This project is nothing without the people it’s built for. Here’s how you can be a part of it from the very beginning:
If you’re a reader, hit the subscribe button. You’ll get the best new fiction on the platform sent straight to your inbox and be the first to know when the full directory goes live.
If you’re a writer, we want to feature you. Getting listed is completely free and is your ticket to being discovered by our growing community. Fill out our quick submission form here:
If you don’t use Google, but still want to be listed, feel free to drop me a DM and I can add you manually.
Thank you for being here at the start of it all. The foundation is laid, and now the real work, the fun work, begins. Let’s build this together!

Hi Gary, you've mentioned elsewhere people volunteered to help with the project. I am a data scientist/ software dev by profession hence happy to help within this particular remit. Let me know.
Great idea. I just signed up. I appreciate your help and hard work. Best wishes, Gary.
